This is a 1-day course. The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course is intended for individuals interested in applying for the Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL). This course is 8-hours, led by an NRA certified instructor and includes both classroom and range (Owings Mills) time. No previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation required. If you already own a handgun, please bring it with you to class along with eye & ear protection & 150 rounds of ammunition. Please leave your ammunition in your car until instructed otherwise. This class is a basic introductory class for anyone wishing to obtain the Maryland HQL or simply become more familiar with a handgun.
You’ll learn all about the anatomy and physiology of a single and double-action revolver and various types of semi-automatic handguns on the market today.
You will be shooting to qualify at 10, 15, and 20 feet. If you are a potential instructor candidate, you will also qualify at 45 feet.
