This course is 10 hours and includes both classroom and range time instruction on how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. The NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting is intended for all individuals, regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation. This is an instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end. Students will learn the NRA rules for safe gun handling, parts of a shotgun, different types of shotguns, operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, range rules, and how to clean a shotgun. This class includes a live-fire exercise so bring your shotgun and ammunition (50 shells, shot size 7.5 or 8, no slugs). Please leave your ammunition in your car until instructed otherwise. You’ll learn everything about your shotgun possible. From pump action to semi-automatic to break action, we cover it all. Most of our instructors are AVID shotgun sporting enthusiasts with years of experience.
Yes, you do have to qualify. You will be shooting at moving targets that are flying directly away from you. The EASIEST presentation there is. With an 11 out of 25, you are on your way to becoming a great shotgun shooter.
